Somali Cultural Week is an initiative designed to celebrate and promote Somali
heritage, traditions, and contributions through a series of cultural events.
The upcoming Cultural Week, is set to take place from June 26, 2025, to July 4, 2025.
This annual event is a proud showcase of cultural pride, inviting communities in
Portland to dive into the rich traditions and community spirit. Throughout the week, a
variety of engaging activities such as traditional music, dance, storytelling, poetry, food,
educational discussions and soccer tournaments, and more will highlight to foster
cultural appreciation and unity within the community.
Cultural Week is more than just an event; it’s an exploration into the heart of Somali
culture, showcasing its people’s artistic, literary, and athletic talents. Participants will be
captivated by the beautiful Qur’an recitations, inspired by the powerful poetry, and
excited by competitive sports and traditional games like tug of war and egg-holding
races. These activities are not only entertaining but are also aimed at deepening the
understanding and appreciation of Somali culture within the university community.
