The Somali Oregon Service Center
The Somali Oregon Service Center (SOSC) is a community-based nonprofit organization committed to supporting individuals and families who are socially and economically disadvantaged—particularly, though not exclusively, those of Somali origin and heritage living or working in Oregon.
Founded on September 30, 2020, by a group of dedicated local volunteers, SOSC was established to serve refugees and immigrants across the state. Our mission is to uplift and empower underserved communities through culturally responsive support and services.
We provide a wide range of services , including healthcare access, public benefits, housing, immigration support, school enrollment, and employment assistance. In addition, our programs focus on health, education, youth development, and community building to help families thrive and contribute to a safer, more inclusive Oregon.

Advocacy services for refugees and immigrants
SOS Center advocates for refugee and immigrant families by helping them understand their rights, access services, communicate with agencies, and navigate systems such as housing, health care, education, public benefits, and community resources. SOSC also works to ensure that immigrant and refugee voices are represented in local decision-making, policy discussions, and community planning.
Women’s empowerment program
SOSC supports women through practical skills training, sewing classes, leadership development, peer support, and community connection. These programs help women build confidence, develop income-generating skills, reduce isolation, and create stronger support networks with other women in the community. Through culturally responsive training and mentorship, participants gain tools to support themselves, their families, and their long-term independence.
